Supermarket denies rumour of Lisburn store

Supermarket chain Aldi have denied rumours that they are setting up their first Northern Irish store in Lisburn in the near future.

Rumours have been flying around the internet that the low cost store is recruiting staff for a store in the city with a number of people contacting the Star on the matter.

Indeed, people have even posted job advertisements that suggest Aldi are in the process of seeking a manager for a supermarket in Lisburn.

However, a spokesperson for the chain has categorically denied they are setting up a store in Lisburn in the near future and have stated that the job advertisement was posted online erroneously.

“This appears to be an old advert, dating back to July, which was uploaded in error,” said the spokesperson for Aldi. “The advert was taken down weeks ago but someone may have taken a screenshot of it before it was removed.

“Apologies for the confusion but this is an issue that we have raised with the job boards in question.”

He also made it clear that Aldi, which currently has no stores in Northern Ireland, although it does operate in the Republic, has no plans to open in Lisburn.

“Aldi has no plans to open a store in Lisburn in the near future,” he confirmed.
