Support for Cardiac patients and families

WAVENEY and Antrim Cardiac support Group formerly known as Waveney Cardiac Support Group has been in existence for the last 18 years.

The groups members are ex-cardiac patients, their families and friends and two cardiac nurses who are always in attendance.

The group meets monthly from September through to June on the first Monday night of each month from 7pm at Fern House in Antrim Area Hospital.

Speakers from various disciplines and walks of life will speak to the group. There is a cup of tea afterwards and an informal chat.

The group has a formal committee with chairperson secretary and treasurer and committee members who have regular meetings.

They also fundraise throughout the year and any money raised buys equipment for the cardiology department in Antrim Area Hospital.

During the past year the group have had donations from several patients relatives and from various groups who have taken an interest in the group.

A spokesperson for the group said that they are eternally grateful to all those members and friends who continue to raise money for equipment in the Cardiac Unite at Antrim Area Hospital.

They said: "Without their help the Unit wouldn't get any equipment due to a lack of funding."
