Support growing on Facebook

SUPPORT for a Tesco Extra store at Bridgewater Park is growing fast, with one Facebook Group proving very popular among local people wishing to throw their weight behind the plans.

The group "Tesco should be given planning permission at the Outlet" has almost 2,000 fans and many comments lending support to the campaign.

While many of the town's residents were vocal about their disappointment at the rejection of Tesco's appeal to open the biggest store in Ireland at Bridgewater Park, the campaign has been given a new lease of life following the supermarket's new application for planning permission last month.

One caller to the Leader office said he has never seen people from the town become so enthusiastic about an issue.

"It really is a live issue which is getting people talking," he said. "I think there is overwhelming support for the store at Bridgewater and I just hope it keeps going and we can finally overcome the minority group who don't want it."

There is also a Save Banbridge Town Centre Facebook page which has 200 members.
