Supporters club boosts charity

1st Maze Northern Ireland Supporters Club were delighted to attend a function in the Mayor’s Parlour on Monday March 16 to present Mayor with a cheque for £600 for his chosen charity Marie Curie Cancer Care.

The Club raised this at a recent Battle of the Bands event which was attended by Pride of Ballynahinch PB FB, Pride of Knockmore FB, Kilcluney Volunteers FB, Lisburn Fusiliers FB and Aghalee Young Volunteers FB.

Club Secretary Vince Curry said: “Since the club was formed in 2006 a key part of our core activities has been to raise funds for local charities and we are delighted to have made this small contribution.

“Over the years we have raised close on £10,000 for numerous charities throughout Northern Ireland.

“I must also give a special thanks to the bands for giving up their time to attend this event.

“Our local flute bands do a great deal of fantastic community and charity work which very much goes unnoticed and I feel they should receive more credit for the tireless work they do.

“We must be proud and confident in our culture and everyone must play their part in sharing the good work that they do.”

The Mayor, Councillor Andrew Ewing, thanked the club for their support and said the money raised would be greatly appreciated.
