Survey to assess interest in food schemes

The local authority’s Food Forum is seeking funding from the Public Health Agency for a number of initiatives.

Among the potential schemes to be delivered are allotments, cookery demonstrations, classes to develop basic cooking skills and the setting up of systems to promote the supply of locally-produced food.

A survey has been set up online to determine the level of interest in the potential projects.

This will help the Forum in developing an action plan when making the funding application, said Claire Duddy from the council’s Environmental Services department.

“The Food Forum does link closely with the Hearty Lives Project and we hope to deliver more Cook it! programmes together as there is a waiting list and the current programme is oversubscribed,” Claire added.

Carrickfergus Food Forum was established in the summer of 2014 and is made up of individuals from a range of backgrounds, including horticulturists and health and wellbeing champions, all of whom are committed to addressing food poverty-related issues in the Carrickfergus borough.
