Suspect device culprits slammed

LONDONDERRY SDLP MP Mark Durkan has condemned those responsible for leaving a suspicious device outside the home of SDLP Creggan election candidate Jim Clifford.

Speaking after visiting elderly residents of the area who were evacuated to the Creggan Healthy Living Centre, the Foyle SDLP MP said: “This has been a very upsetting experience, not just for Jim’s wife and family but for his neighbours.

“Some of them are elderly and frail, and should not be put through such distress and disruption.”

He said Mr Clifford would not be put off by such incidents but is vexed for his neighbours as well as his wife and family.

“As well as Jim’s neighbours who had to be evacuated, the wider Creggan community have suffered the inconvenience of a security alert with traffic disruption when children are going back to school after the Easter break and at a time when people are returning to work.

“Whoever is behind this will not intimidate Jim Clifford. They are only inconveniencing the good people of the Creggan,” said Mr Durkan.
