Suspended jail term for actof violence

A MAN who damaged a post van was given a four-month suspended jail sentence at Magherafelt Magistrates Court for criminal damage.

Darren Booth (23), of Riverside Gardens, Castledawson was told by District Judge Des Perry that he had committed an act of “gratuitious violence.”

A PPS lawyer said Booth had smashed a wing mirror on the van while it was engaged in making deliveries on June 29 last year.

The court heard the case had been adjourned from a previous court to allow police to monitor Booth’s behaviour.

A defence barrister said the defendant had kept out of trouble and full restitution, totalling £123.28 had been paid into court.
