Suspended prison for
possession of drugs

A Dunmurry man has been given a suspended prison sentence after admitting possession of drugs.

Luke Joseph Matthew Neeson, 30, from Chestnut Park in Dunmurry, appeared at Lisburn Magistrates Court this week charged with possession of a Class B drug, namely Cannabis resin and possession of a Class C drug, namely ketamine.

The court heard that on November 29 police carried out a search of the defendant’s Dunmurry home. A number of items were removed at the time.

On December 3 the police returned to the address in Dunmurry and arrested the defendant. As he was being cautioned, two packets containing white powder and three pink tablets were discovered.

The defendant admitted the cannabis was for his own personal use and the other substance was steroids.

Defence said the pre-sentence report was “wholly positive”. He added: “There’s been a sea change in his lifestyle.”

District Judge Rosie Watters imposed a prison sentence of three months suspended for two years.
