The court heard that the injured party said that Hagan was in her home and became angry.

He struck her in the face breaking her nose and leaving a cut. Hagan admitted hitting her but only after she had slapped him first.

The case had been adjourned for pre-sentence reports.

A defence barrister said he had a difficulty with relationships and that this was an alcohol fuelled incident.

He added that the two involved were a negative influence on each other. Hagan no longer took alcohol except in special circumstances.

District Judge Benita Boyd said that because of the circumstances the custody threshold had been breached.
