Suspended sentence following assault at Causeway Hospital

A COLERAINE woman has received a two month suspended prison sentence for assaulting a member of staff at the Causeway Hospital.

Lisa Anne McComb (29) of Circular Road, told North Antrim Magistrates' Court on Wednesday she 'just flipped' before striking a nurse in the Accident and Emergency Department on May 5.

The court heard that police were called after McComb had struck a female nurse on the side of the head with her handbag as she was being removed from the hospital because of her behaviour.

Defence told the court that McComb was heavily intoxicated on the night and was currently seeking help for alcohol addiction.

McComb, who was present in court, apologised to District Judge, Richard Wilson, for her behaviour.

"I'm very sorry for what I did and it won't happen again. I felt the nurse was miscalling me and I just flipped," she explained.

District Judge Wilson suspended the custodial sentence for two years and fined McComb 150 for disorderly behaviour.

McComb was also order to pay the injured party 150 compensation.
