Suspended sentence for man after assault

A 27-year-old Banbridge man has been given a three month prison sentence suspended for two years.

Barry Magee, from Chestnut Place, was charged with common assault on another male on 23 May 2010.

Last Thursday's local Magistrates Court heard how the injured party suffered swelling and bruising to his left eye as a result of the assault.

After considering a pre-sentence report District Judge, Mr Paul Copeland, said this was an "aggressive and hostile incident" which demonstrated Magee's "ill-temper and determination to express himself physically."

Mr Copeland told Magee he was concerned about his record and warned him that if he gets involved again in a similar fashion he "may well go to prison."

Magee was also ordered to pay his victim 350 compensation.
