A 33-year-old man was given a suspended prison sentence last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court for possession of an offensive weapon.

The court heard that police were dealing with two males in Dingwell Park and Seeley produced a knife.

He said it was for his own protection.

Imposing the suspended sentence District Judge, Mr Desmond Perry, said that knife crime here was nothing like it is on the mainland and if this had happened in England the defendant would be going straight to prison.
