Suspension of roadworks over festive period

Work to upgrade the junction at Francis Street, Edward Street and Sloan Street has been temporarily suspended over the Christmas and New Year period.

The suspension of work is to ensure that traffic progression and trading in Lurgan is not impacted on during the busy festive period.

Temporary pedestrian crossing facilities have been provided at the junction, and it is important that pedestrians make use of these facilities, as most of the original crossing points are now closed and are unsafe for use.

Revised lane indication signing for traffic approaching the Francis St junction from Lurgan has also been provided.

It is intended to resume construction work early in the New Year and tie in with planned resurfacing works for the area.

Roads Service appreciates the public’s continued patience while this work is carried out.

When complete the junction will benefit from the latest Puffin crossing facilities, an additional controlled crossing near St Paul’s Church and revised signal phasing.

Advanced control software should also bring improvements to the traffic flows at this junction.
