Suspicious approach to teen girl

Police are appealing for information following the report of a suspicious approach to a 16 year old girl in the Ballycastle area.

Inspector John Allen said: “At approximately 8.15pm on Tuesday, 4 March as a 16 year old girl was walking along Ramoan Road, Ballycastle a car drew up behind her and the male driver shouted obscenities at her.

“The girl then entered Leyland Road where the driver continued shouting obscenities at her. The driver then turned his car off and lunged across the passenger seat and attempted to grab her through the open passenger door.

“The girl made off and the driver left the area.

“The driver is described as being aged 28/30 years old, thin build, but toned and had a shaved head. He appeared to be tall in height and spoke with a broad country accent.

“The car is described as being a dull blue colour. It appeared to be quite old with some rust on it.

“I would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who has any information to contact Police at Ballycastle on the non-emergency number 101. Or, if someone would prefer to provide information, without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
