Swann praises dignified ‘Black Saturday’ parade

North Antrim UUP MLA Robin Swann has praised the County Antrim Chapter of the Royal Black Institution for its “tremendously dignified demonstration” during the Last Saturday parade in Ballyclare.

Assemblyman Swann, who is also UUP Chief Whip and a Past Master of the Institution, also paid tribute to the “excellent organisation of the parade and the platform proceedings”.

He said: “The County Antrim Grand Black Chapter has gained itself an impressive reputation over the generations for staging one of the showpieces of the Loyal Orders’ traditional marching season. The 2014 Last Saturday demonstration was just as impressive and disciplined.

“All the District Chapters, individual preceptories and bands which took part in the county demonstration are to be congratulated on their turnout and behaviour. The contributions by the District Chapters was especially noteworthy. I am also delighted to see that the County Chapter is maintaining its equally excellent reputation for fund-raising for local charities.”

Mr Swann said it was also “very encouraging” to see the thousands of people who lined the parade route and attended the platform proceedings in the field.

“The Last Saturday demonstration has also become a great family occasion for the Royal Black Institution, and the County Antrim Chapter can be very proud of its contribution in bringing the traditional marching season to a dignified, peaceful and honourable conclusion,” added Assemblyman Swann.
