Swann urges action to back disabled anglers

Robin Swann, the North Antrim Ulster Unionist Party Assemblyman and member of the Stormont Agriculture and Culture Committees, has called for more disabled car parking spaces in carparks at angling facilities.

Assemblyman Swann, who is also North Antrim UUP Chairman, was speaking after challenging the Minister of Culture, Arts and Leisure on the issue.

Mr Swann had asked the Minister when she intends to undertake a review of disabled car parking regulations in relation to public angling estate waters which have disabled car park facilities available?

He added: “In her response to me, she said her Department has responsibility for two disabled car parks at Public Angling Estate (PAE) waters, which are owned by Northern Ireland Water.

“NI Water has advised her Department of its intention to undertake urgent remedial and maintenance work at a number of reservoirs, including those adjacent to the two disabled car parks.

“This will result in the temporary closure of not only these PAE waters, but also the disabled car parks while the work is carried out.

“As a result, she added, of the impending works closing the car parks, her Department has delayed the review of arrangements for disabled parking while these works progress.

“I want the Minister to ensure that there will be sufficient car parking spaces for disabled anglers so that they are not discriminated against,” said Assemblyman Swann.
