Swann welcomes Ballybogey scheme of resurfacing

Assemblyman Swann, who is also North Antrim UUP Chairman and Party Chief Whip, said the scheme would “be a tremendous boost to the economy and road safety in the region.”

The work began on Monday from Ballybogey village south towards Ballymoney for about 1.2km.

The Minister said: “This scheme will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of the carriageway on part of this important road running from Ballymoney through to the A2 Dunluce Road coastal route near Portrush.”

To help minimise any inconvenience to the travelling public and local businesses elements of this work, where possible, will be executed using lane closures only.

However, full closures of the Ballybogey Road will be in place on Wednesday 23 - Friday 25 and Monday 28 October to facilitate the carriageway surfacing works.

During the closures a signed traffic diversion via Knock Road, Castlecatt Road and Benvardin Road will be in operation for through traffic. The scheme is expected to be substantially completed on 30 October.

Mr Swann added: “This is a major arterial route for tourists heading towards the Giant’s Causeway and the coast and hopefully the improvements in the quality of the road will equally result in an increase in numbers coming to the region.

“That can only mean a boost to the local economy.”

MLA Swann has also urged the First and Deputy First Ministers not to forget north Antrim when it comes to developing their comprehensive childcare strategy.
