Swift talk for Probus members

President Graham Kane welcomed back an old friend of the club Dean Victor Griffin.

Dean Victor who had previously addressed members with a wonderful talk on the King James’ Bible proceeded to enthrall members with his talk on the life and times of Dean Jonathan Swift.

Dean Victor and Dean Jonathan had the honour and privilege to both being the incumbent Deans of St.Patrick’s Cathedral in Dublin.

Dean Victor reminded members that Swift had been Dean from 1713-1745.

Victor recalled times when letters were received from abroad concerning information about the LIVING Jonathan Swift!! Dean Victor took time to respond to these letters in his all so appropriate style! His talk was informative, witty yet never straying from his main theme eg-his meetings with notable dignitaries such as Ian Paisley and one Charles Haughey(someone who helped resolve a particular tricky situation)!Members left informed entertained and above all wondering what would be the Dean’s future topics on his return to the club!

The vote of thanks was proposed by Dermot Jennings who congratulated the Dean on his riveting talk which he had delivered in his own inimitable style. This was duly passed on by the President.
