Sword-wielding robber steals cash

DETECTIVES are investigating an armed robbery at a commercial outlet in the Church Road area at the weekend.

At around 7.40pm on Sunday (February 21) a male brandishing what is thought to have been a sword entered the premises and stole a sum of cash.

The robber, who made off along Church Road, is described as being around 5ft 8in tall, of medium build and was wearing a blue camouflage-patterned hooded top.

Meanwhile, police are appealing for information following an attempted armed robbery in Mossley on Saturday (February 20).

At around 8pm a male armed with a gun entered a fast food outlet at Crescent Corner and threatened two female members of staff. The robber, who was wearing a balaclava, demanded cash, but made off empty handed. He is described as being around 5ft 8in tall and was wearing a black bomber jacket and black jeans or combat trousers.

Police have urged anyone with information in relation to either of these incidents to contact them at Newtownabbey Station.
