Taghnevan multicultural day proves a success

The event provided an opportunity for local residents to sample the foods and skills that are an integral part of the diverse cultures to be found within Craigavon district.

The large crowds who attended the event had an opportunity to sample the foods of many different countries and experience their crafts and music through a series of workshops. The organisers of the multicultural day ensured that the children had plenty to occupy them with sports, games, face painting and an underage football tournament on the nearby St Paul’s football pitches.

Councillor Liam Mackle who attended the event with his family said: “This was a good news story which showed the true face of Taghnevan in contrast to the bad headlines of the recent past. This was a well organised, well attended event and it was great to see the people of Taghnevan coming together with the new migrant communities to share aspects of the different cultures.”

Cllr Mackle praised those responsible for organising this event saying: “I went with my family and we had a great time, the food was terrific and thankfully the weather stayed dry.

“Saturday was a busy day in Taghnevan and the Taghnevan Community Association, Craigavon Council and St Paul’s GFC deserve credit for the hard work and the time they put into organising this brilliant day which was thoroughly enjoyed by all those who attended.”
