Talented artists to light up their towns

Meet the lucky children who will be helping the Mayor of Coleraine, Councillor George Duddy and Santa Claus switch on the Christmas lights in their towns this Christmas!

Following his request for schools to take part in a ‘Christmas Colouring Competition’, Mayor Duddy has selected his seven winners who are: Amy Calvin, Hezlett Primary School, Mya Boyd, Killowen Primary School, Dylan Elder, Garvagh Primary School, Rebekah Gordon, Kilrea Primary School, Tom Hassan, Carnalridge Primary School, Jenna Hunt, Portstewart Primary School and William McDonald, Ballytober Primary School. Each child will represent their towns of Coleraine, Castlerock, Portrush, Portstewart, Kilrea, Garvagh and Portballintrae.

Mayor Duddy commented: “We had so many talented Primary two and Primary three children from throughout the Borough enter the competition.

“I’d like to thank them all for their efforts. To facilitate the Christmas light switch on, myself and my Christmas helpers could only choose seven winners, one to represent each area.

“I’d ask everyone to come along to the Christmas Light Switch Ons and join in with what will be a fantastic night’s entertainment for everyone. I’d like to thank all of the schools who got involved in the competition and finally congratulate the winners. I look forward to joining them at their Christmas Light Switch Ons in the coming weeks!”

The Borough’s Christmas lights will be switched on as follows: Coleraine: Friday 28th November at 7pm; Portrush: Thursday 4th December at 7.30pm; Portstewart: Friday 5th December at 5.30pm; Kilrea: Saturday 6th December at 5pm; Garvagh: Monday 8th December at 7.30pm; Casterock: Thursday 11th December at 7.30pm; Portballintrae, Saturday 13th December at 4.00pm.
