The event is part of a presentation by Brett Irwin from the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland to accompany the Londonderry Papers exhibition on Wednesday 16 March from 2.00pm - 3.00pm.

During this presentation, Mr Irwin will look at three major aspects of the Great War that involved Lady Edith Londonderry - her work with the formation of the Women’s Legion, the social club formed in 1915 known as ‘the Ark’ and letters sent to her from the Western Front.

Lady Londonderry was a glittering socialite who played a leading role in British social and political life from her family estate at Mount Stewart in Newtownards and Londonderry House in London.

She inspired awe and affection in equal amounts but was much more than a grande dame.

She was devoted to helping other women and was an early feminist.

Brett will base his presentation on the extensive Londonderry archive from PRONI.

The Londonderry Papers exhibition is on display in Lisburn City Library during the month of March for people to view during library opening hours.

Admission to this talk is free and everyone is welcome.
