‘Talking News’ bid farewell to Muriel

Mrs McMaster was one of a small group of people, led initially by Peter Craddock, who in the mid 1970’s created a weekly audio record of the news

for those who through sight loss or other disability couldn’t access local and regional news.

The ‘Talking News’ has continued non-stop since that time and currently provides its listeners each week with an 80 minute CD of news, items of

interest and entertainment.

The CD are duplicated by the Northern Ireland library service and circulated free by the Post Office.

The charity is staffed exclusively by volunteers and has been supported for many years by the Lions Club as part of their key commitment to work

on projects designed to prevent blindness, restore eyesight and improve eye health and eye care for hundreds of millions of people worldwide.

The Coleraine Lions Club was represented at the event by Mr Eamon Boorman and Mr John Davidson.

During her 35 years of service to Talking News, Muriel was not only a regular contributor to the recording of news but also heavily involved as a Visitor –

calling with new recipients and familiarising them with the service. While all wished Muriel every happiness in the future they agreed that her hard work

over many years had been a great contribution to the work of the organization and she would be greatly missed.
