'˜Tall tales' willbe festival theme

'Ten days of creativity' will get underway this week with the start of Larne Summer Arts Festival to be held from June 8 until June 18.

The event is being held by Mid and East Antrim Borough Council.

The theme this year will be “Tall Tales”, favourite storybooks and well-loved tales, books and stories which have captured the imagination.

One of the main highlights is expected to be the Larne Summer Arts Festival parade which will take place in Larne town centre, on Saturday June 17, leaving St. John’s Place at 3.00 pm,

Lending to the atmosphere wil be live music and entertainment at Broadway, from 1.00 pm.

Participants in the parade include primary schools and youth groups, sports clubs, charities and Irish dancing schools, to name just a few.

This year, the parade will also feature a variety of specialist cars, tractors and lorries.

The fun will continue on Sunday June 18 at Larne Town Park , from 11.00 am until 5.00 pm for a “celebration of all the artistic, literary, dramatic and performance talent found in Mid and East Antrim”. Activities in the park will include ‘come and try it’ art sessions, live music, performances and family fun.

Other festival events include performances at Larne Museum and Arts Centre.

Performing original material from his upcoming album on Thursday June 8 will be Matthew Malcolm who has been commended for his “acoustic mastery”.

Writer Randall Stephen will be at the museum on Friday June 9, with his own brand of “inventive humour”. There will be storytelling with Billy Teare and Kathleen O’Sullivan. on June 10; music by the Darragh Folk , also on June 10.

A family fun cycle will take place in Larne town centre on Tuesday June 13, from 6.30 pm.
