The Minister of the Environment, Mark H Durkan, in a written answer to DUP MLA for North Down, Peter Weir, confirmed that training for the staff in Coleraine will begin as soon as the winding-up of vehicle licensing has been completed, following the transfer of those services to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency in Swansea from July 21.

The Minister said: “The exact date for the transfer of taxi and bus licensing will depend on the progress of staff training so as to ensure a smooth transition and no disruption of services for customers.

“I will ensure that all customers are kept fully informed as the process develops.

“It is planned that 30 full time equivalent posts from Road Transport and Licensing Division will be relocated from Belfast to Coleraine; 24.5 of which are taxi licensing posts. The remaining posts to be transferred are in relation to bus operator licensing and regulation.”
