Taxi ranks get the green light

It’s understood the taxi rank areas in Castle Lane and Carnegie Street will be marked out with yellow road markings and will be signposted.

DRD Roads Service have suggested operating hours of 7am to 7pm, but this is subject to confirmation.

Prior to the proposal being put forward to council for approval, Lurgan Forward had contacted all the taxi firms operating in Lurgan.

10 firms were contacted, however only four attended a meeting held on February 15, at which proposals were put forward to have taxi ranks in Castle Lane and Carnegie Street.

The proposals were approved at last week’s council meeting.

All that now remains is for the taxi rank to be approved by the relevant NI Assembly Committee and the advertisement of the scheme.
