Taxis take action to prevent human trafficking

Taxi drivers in Londonderry, regularly referred to as the eyes and ears of the community, have launched a campaign to highlight and promote awareness of human trafficking.

Drivers are now displaying stickers in their taxi’s that provide a helpline number for anyone who suspects someone has been trafficked.

Human trafficking is becoming more and more of a problem in Derry~Londonderry, the hidden nature of trafficking means that is difficult for us to truly recognise the number of victims and the extent of the problem in our communities. Nevertheless it was reported that 75 victims of human trafficking have been rescued in Northern Ireland since 2009. This campaign encourages taxi drivers and members of the public to claim an active role in their community and to take measures against the slavery of the victims
