EAST Antrim MP and Finance Minister Sammy Wilson was joined in Larne Town Hall by Dail minister Brian Hayes, TD, for the opening of a joint government artwork exhibition.

Mr Hayes, Minister of State at the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform in Dublin, helped the DUP politician to launch the touring exhibition, which features 40 artworks from the collections of the Northern Ireland Civil Service and the Office of Public Works in the Republic.

“I am delighted to be able to support this joint exhibition which has provided a platform for hundreds of local artists to showcase their work since it first began in 1997.

“I am particularly pleased that the exhibition has come to Larne and the wonderfully refurbished town hall.

Mr Hayes commented: “The Office of Public Works and the Northern Ireland Civil Service exhibition is one of the longest running shared North/South visual arts projects and my Department is delighted to continue the tradition. We have toured the work of hundreds of artists to arts centres, colleges, hospitals, theatres, libraries and now here to the town hall of Larne this evening.” The exhibition is entitled Elements, with the artwork being based around the subject of earth, water, air and fire. Among the artists represented are Trevor McElnea, John Kindness and Roz Harvey.

The exhibition will be in the town hall until November 27. Admission is free.
