Teacher cleared of assault on pupil
A teacher at Ceara School convicted of assaulting a pupil has been cleared on appeal.
Special needs teacher Laura McConville had been convicted earlier this year of an assault on a pupil at Dunnes Stores, Rushmere.
That conviction was quashed following an appeal hearing.
A representative for Ms McConville said the decision was welcome, adding: “If the conviction had stood I believe it would have adversely impacted on the willingness of teaching and classroom assistant staff in special needs schools to engage in extra curriculum activities outside the school.”
