DUP MLA Stephen Moutray along with David Martin have hosted a range of school teachers and principals at a fact finding event in Brownlow House, Lurgan to encourage greater educational links with the local history of the Castle.

Speaking following the event Mr Moutray said, “Following the appointment of David Martin to his position within Brownlow House I felt it was imperative that local schools were able to access and learn about their local history and ultimately integrate it into their curriculum.

“Within Brownlow House there is a very rich history incorporating the Brownlow family and their links to Lurgan.

“There is also a captivating history that surrounds WW2 and particularly the fact that the US Army set up their HQ in Brownlow House.”

He went on: “This was an excellent afternoon and I believe that it will ensure that the history of Lurgan, and Brownlow House is instilled in future generations.

“It is imperative that Brownlow House continues its programme of activities aimed at making it an educational tool for schools. With the new Brownlow HQ Museum in full swing it is vital that the message is out there that Brownlow House is open to all.”

The state of the art museum was opened at Brownlow House earlier this year after £130,000 was invested by Craigavon Council.

An additional £40,000 was secured for the appointment of a new staff member.

This money was secured via the OFMDFM Good Relations Funding stream.
