Team 14 completes Winter League triumph at Galgorm

THE Winter League, sponsored by McAllister's Butchers Spar Galgorm and Broughshane, was completed at Galgorm Castle Golf Club.

In the team event the expected exciting finish did not really materialise as Team 14 - which had been leading Team 4 by two points - gained another four points in the final week to increase their lead for a comfortable victory by six points.

Team 1 finished in third position a further 19 points behind.

Alan Knox won the Individual competition by five points from his nearest rival. In a close battle for second place David Halliday finished a point ahead of David Watterson with Neil Fitzsimmons taking fourth place another two points behind.

Team 4 (Jordan Hood, J McCarry, D Martin, N Fitzsimmons, G Simpson, P Warren and R McDyer); 3. Team 1 (M Alexander, D Halliday, S McLaughlin, D Black, T Monaghan, R Clarke and John Hood).

SWEEP

In the sweep, sponsored by McAllister’s Butchers Spar Galgorm and Broughshane, at the halfway stage in the Low Section there was a ‘ding dong’ battle for the leadership at the head of the field between Alan McClements, Mark Dunlop, Willie Park and Leonard Craig.

They were one point ahead of Stephen McLaughlin with Michael McAuley and Douglas Thom another point behind.

Through 12, McClements had moved into a one point lead over Dunlop with Park and Craig slipping slightly another point away. A further point behind came McLaughlin, McAuley and Thom.

With two holes to play Dunlop, with the help of a ‘birdie’ on 13, had joined McClements in the lead. They were two points ahead of

McLaughlin and Park who were followed by Craig and Thom a further point down. McAuley was another point behind.

McClements continued his run of pars to finish two points clear of McLaughlin who finished with two pars. Dunlop bogeyed the last but managed to hold onto third place one point ahead of a fast finishing M McAuley (two pars), Park (two pars), Craig (par, bogey) and Thom (par, bogey).

In the High Section Ralph Clarke led by one point from Gary Robinson with Mal Kyne and Harry Graham a further two points down. With three holes to play Graham had moved up into a one point lead from Robinson and Kyne with Clarke dropping down another point behind as he ‘dinged’ the 11th which was to prove costly.

Robinson upped his game over the closing three holes – par, birdie, birdie to finish three points clear of the second placed player. Kyne with two pars and a bogey finished second, one point ahead of Graham (bogey, birdie, double bogey) and Clarke (two pars and a bogey) and with a better back nine Graham took third place.

Dave Kernoghan won best gross with 33 gross points.
