'˜Tech' old boy backs HE expansion in NW

'˜Tech' old boy Gary Middleton says he'll continue to back the expansion of higher and further education in Londonderry.

The DUP MLA made the comments following a meeting with North West Regional College Principal Leo Murphy at the College NI 2016 BEST awards in the Foyle Arena.

He said: “I was overwhelmed by the high quality projects and the level of ambition on display from the students. There were projects involving various sectors including health, agriculture and education.

“As a past student of the North West Regional College, I will continue to give my support to the further expansion of higher and further education in Londonderry and the wider region.

“Over recent days the issue of corporation tax has been in the spotlight once again.

“I welcome that all parties in the NI Executive support this, however, to ensure the benefits of this action is realised, we must further invest in our higher and further education to ensure we meet the skills demands of companies attracted to investing here due to the low level of corporation tax.

“I will be meeting with the Economy Minister over the coming days to highlight the need for further and sustained investment in the North West”.
