Ted is victorious in sweep competition.

Although conditions are still a long way from being perfect there was great delight among the members as they eagerly engaged in competition for the first time after a fortnights layoff.

Some members took the opportunity to play the competition on Thursday when the weather was at its mildest hoping that scores posted in these conditions would stand a better chance of winning.

Saturday saw the bulk of the members competing in less favourable conditions when a cold breeze coupled with a few hail showers made scoring a lot more difficult.

Ted Hardy (21) appeared to be oblivious to these trying conditions and returned a winning score of 34pts over the shortened course of fourteen holes to beat his nearest rivals by a two-point margin.

Starting at the tenth he accumulated fifteen points over the six holes opened on the outward stretch.

Two nett birdies at the eleventh and twelfth holes and a nett eagle at the seventeenth made up the bulk of this points score.

Over the eight holes open on the inward stretch he managed to score another nineteen points with the help of another nett eagle at the 5th, and registering three more nett birdies at the 4th, 7th, and 8th holes.

This was by far the best score of the week and gave Ted his second victory during these winter months.

Second place had to be decided on a count back after three players returned scores of 32 points.

John Carson (16) was then awarded second place when his score of 32 points narrowly beat Michael Haughian and Frank Gallagher into third and fourth place respectively.

John scored 13 points on the outward journey with the highlight of this endeavour being nett birdies at the tenth and eleventh holes. Steady play on the way home gained him another 19 points made up from six nett pars, one nett birdie and a nett eagle.

Michael Haughian (9) took third place with 32 points.

His two over par gross for the fourteen holes netted him 15 points on the way out and 17 points coming home Highlight of his round was an nett eagle at the tenth hole.

Frank Gallagher (17) took fourth spot also with 32 points. He registered 16 points on the way out, but any chance of winning was dealt a severe blow after a lost ball on the third last hole curtailed his scoring to another 16 points.

Sean McStay (7) won the gross prize with 26 gross points. This is Sean’s second win in this section over the last three competitions held.

There was just three ‘two’s recorded in this competition.

A reminder that this Saturday is the final day in which members are expected to have their dues paid for the incoming year.
