Teen Queen prize for Emma-Louise

LURGAN teenager Emma-Louise Coleman has finished runner-up in the prestigious Teen Queen UK competition.

From over 10,000 entrants the 18-year-old made it through to the grand final last weekend in London.

Just over a year ago Emma-Louise applied online by sending over a photograph to the organisers.

They then asked her to travel to London for a photo-shoot and she was selected to go forward to the public vote.

She polled the highest number of votes and was the only Irish girl to make the final stages.

Last Wednesday she travelled with her mother Fiona, father Eamon and sister Shauneen from their Derrytrasna Road home to London.

Alexandra Palace was the venue for the finals on Teen Princess UK and Teen Queen UK.

Emma-Louise was in the Teen Queen section, for 16 to 19-year-olds, and the contestants had to parade in jeans and T-shirt, bikinis and formal evening wear.

Then the prizes were awarded with Emma-Louise taking the second place and her prize of high quality beauty products.

“Emma was delighted,” said her mother Fiona.

“But she was very laid back about it all. The organisers told us to just keep pushing her because they though she has got something. Maybe she will get some modelling work but first of all she had to get her A Levels at Lismore. She would like to study social work.”

Money raised from the Teen Queen and Teen Princess competitions is used to improve living conditions in Ghana through the MAD Foundation.

The presenters on the night were Josie Gibson, Big Brother winner in 2010, and actor John Pickard who has appeared in EastEnders and Hollyoaks.
