Teen stabbed and thirteen lifted on St Patrick's Day

Police in Londonderry confirmed they made a baker’s dozen of arrests in the city on Thursday, March 17 and the early hours of Friday, March 18 in connection with St Patrick’s Day.

The arrests were for offences which included disorderly behaviour, indecent behaviour, common assault and resisting police.

Two of these arrests were street bailed to appear at a police station at a later date, while another two were given a Penalty Notice for Disorder at the time of the arrests.

Chief Inspector Alan Hutton said: “There were thousands of people in the city yesterday to attend the celebrations and the number of arrests count as a very small percentage.

“Most of the arrests occurred in the evening time and are linked to people being inebriated.

“I would like to thank the organisers and participants in both Foyle and Strabane for their work and contribution to help make these St Patrick’s Day events so successful.

“In addition to these arrests, a 17-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent, possession of an offensive weapon and common assault.

This followed the report of an 18-year-old man being stabbed in the hand in the Grafton Street area just before 5.45pm.

The 17-year-old man, who also received injuries to his face, currently remains in custody assisting police with their enquiries.”
