Teenager banned for driving with excess alcohol

A STUDENT from Coleraine has appeared before North Antrim Magistrates' Court on a number of driving matters.

Court heard that Samantha Louise McLean came to the attention of police at the Coleraine Road in Portstewart on August 13.

McLean (18), of Broomhill Park, was observed by police driving with only side lights on and in an erratic manner.

Police stopped her at Burnside Road where she admitted consuming alcohol.

She was arrested for drink driving and taken to Coleraine police station.

When police were leaving her she admitted that she had no licence and that her father had not given her permission to drive the car.

McLean was interviewed for the offences on August 16 and admitted the charges.

A solicitor said McLean had been out with friends on the night in question and she decided to give two of them a lift home.

District Judge, Richard Wilson, said she had made a ‘bad decision’.

McLean was fined 150 for driving with no insurance, 100 for taking a vehicle without permission, 50 for not having an accompanying driver and 200 for driving with excess alcohol.

She was also banned from driving for a year.
