Teenager breached court order

A WATERSIDE man who breached a non-molestation order has been fined £300 at the local court.

Teenager Mark Smyth, of Gelvin Gardens, was convicted of one charge of breaching the court order by going to his ex-girlfriend's Galliagh home on June 11, 2009.

Defence barrister Eoghan Devlin told Londonderry Magistrate’s Court that for a number of reasons the 19-year-old was "more highly strung."

He said other people who were "better equipped" could have dealt with the break-down of a relationship in a "better way."

Mr Devlin added that Smyth had "invested heavily in this relationship and it hasn't worked out... He is someone to be pitied rather than scorned."

The barrister said the 19-year-old had no prior convictions and would not be back before the court.
