A teenage motorist has been disqualified from driving for three months after police caught him driving at over 100mph on the Moneymore road.

Patrick O’Brien, 18, from Backglen Road, Omagh appeared at Dungannon Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

The court heard how the offence was detected on the Moneymore Road on the evening of June 28.

Police also stopped another vehicle driving at 101mph behind the defendant.

When police charged O’Brien with speeding, he made no reply.

His defence solicitor told the court that the teenager had no previous convictions and had made an early guilty plea.

He also handed the judge two references from O’Brien’s current employers, explaining how his driving license was essential for his employment.

“He is a hard working person with two jobs and his own business”, said the solicitor. Judge John Meehan also fined him £300.
