Teenager 'caught up in Halloween festivities'

A teenager who admitted stealing a Halloween figure valued at £100 from a shop in Ballycastle was fined £150 when he appeared at North Antrim Magistrates Court on Wednesday last.

Eoin Matthew Carson, of Market Court, Ballycastle, was said to have got caught up in Halloween festivities when he committed the act.

The figure belonged to Gemma McHenry and Carson was ordered to pay 100 compensation.

The court was told that police spoke to the owner of the shop who had reported the offence. CCTV footage indicated that the figure was taken around 4 a.m. in the morning.

Defendant, who was along with another person, was identified.

A solicitor for Carson (19) said he was not known for dishonesty and on the night had got caught up in the Halloween festivities. Alcohol had been taken and Carson was now sorry for what had happened and apologised.

“Defendant co-operated fully with the PSNI,” the solicitor added.

District Judge, Mr. Richard Wilson, heard Carson again apologise before describing his actions as “silly.” He warned defendant to stay out of trouble in the future.
