Teenager jailed for three months

A COLERAINE man who failed to report for community service has been jailed for three months.

Gareth Morrow (19) of Quickthorn Place appeared before District Judge, Richard Wilson, at North Antrim Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

Morrow was given 240 hours community service after being convicted of assault on police and disorderly behaviour at the same court in December last year.

However, Morrow failed to report for community service and came before Monday’s court for breaching the order.

Morrow’s solcitor told the court that he ‘lacked motivation’ and wished to be sent to jail for the offences rather than carry out the community service.

District Judge, Richard Wilson, referred to the 19-year-old’s ‘significant’ record of 45 previous convictions, and handed him a three month jail sentence.
