Teenager wrote about Judge in court comment book

A COURT has heard that a Coleraine teenager wrote derogatory comments about a judge in a court comment book.

On Friday Steven Doherty (19) of Kingsbury Gardens, appeared before District Judge Richard Wilson at North Antrim Magistrates’ Court.

Whilst in the dock facing other matters, Doherty was reprimanded for his behaviour in the court back on July 31.

Court heard that Doherty and seven co-accused had appeared before the court on July 31 to be bound over.

However, when exiting the court the group became rowdy causing disruption in the precincts of the courthouse

The group used a comments book to write about the District Judge Richard Wilson, whom they had just appeared before.

Appearing before Judge Wilson again on Friday, Doherty was reminded of his behaviour, and was charged with being in contempt of court.

Judge Wilson said he had read each of the comments and wouldn’t be taking any of them personally.

“You think you are a big fella when all eight of you are together,” blasted Judge Wilson.

He told Doherty that he could face 28 days in prison for the offence, however he added: “Your stupidity will cost you this time.”

Doherty was fined £115 and was warned that similar actions would land him in custody.
