Temporary shop for Salvation Army

The church’s Care and Share shop at Dunluce Street was severely damaged by fire recently and is expected to re-open before Christmas. In the meantime, in response to demand, from next Monday (October 31) items will be on sale and donations of clothing and bric-a-brac will be accepted in the church hall to assist in re-stocking the shop.

The church hall will be open Monday-Friday between 9.30am-Noon.

“We’ve been overwhelmed by the messages of support from local people asking when we will re-open and how they can help,” said Lieutenant Sue Whitla, minister at Larne Salvation Army.

“All our stock was lost in the fire and with so many generous offers of support, and comments that the shop is greatly missed in the town, we have decided to open the church hall every morning from next Monday to receive donations of new stock. We’ve also managed to arrange some tables and rails and will open for business – be it on a slightly more limited scale.”

Lt Sue added: “We hope the shop will re-open in Dunluce Street before Christmas and work has already commenced to remove damaged stock and refresh the interior.

“We really believe God will take this terrible situation and turn it into something good, giving us an opportunity to welcome people to our church hall and continue to offer the charity shop services of support, friendship and value-for-money merchandise. We look forward to welcoming old and new friends and we sincerely appreciate the tremendous support and generosity the local community has shown us.”
