Ten hospital admissions for ME in Western Trust area

THERE were just 10 admissions for Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) in the Western Trust in 2009/10.

Health Minister Edwin Poots outlined the level of admissions for ME - also known as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome - in response to an Assembly Question.

The highest number of admission for the same year was 48 in Belfast whilst the lowest was five in the Northern Trust.

The Minister explained that the information referred to the number of inpatient and day case admissions to hospitals with a diagnosis of Myalgic Encephalomyelitisis during 2009/10.

“It should be noted that any individual could have been admitted to hospital more than once during any given time period and would therefore be counted more than once in the above figures,” explained Mr Poots.
