Tesco dismiss speculation over garage relocation

TESCO has dismissed speculation that they are planning to relocate their petrol station on the former Laser Electrical store site on the opposite side of Bentrim Road.

As part of their controversial expansion plan, Tesco have proposed relocating their petrol station and have been examining possible sites. However, they have denied speculation they will move to the site, which previously housed Laser and later SR Electrical.

Speaking at a recent meeting of Lisburn City Council, Alderman Jonathan Craig said he was concerned about the impact on traffic flow in the area if the petrol station is relocated.

He also expressed concern about the impact on traffic once the expansion is completed, as well as the impact caused by Lidl, which was recently granted planning permission for a new store at the Prince William Road roundabout.

Mr Craig called on Lisburn City Council to write to the Roads Service, asking them to examine the impact on traffic congestion in the area once the schemes are up and running.

“It is a major failing in the system that they only take one planning application at a time,” he said. “If you look at the area overall, there will be a major impact on the road infrastructure once both of these stores are up and running.

“I don’t believe they have looked at the combined sites and I have proposed the council write to Roads Service and ask them to examine this issue.”
