But now, it seems, movement is finally beginning to resolve the issue.

DUP MLA Paul Frew has welcomed news from Tesco that they intend to undertake road safety works outside the store.

Speaking following a meeting with Tesco and Ballykeel community representatives last week, Mr Frew said: “I have been campaigning on behalf of my constituents for greater enhancements of safety measures on the Crebilly Road at and near the entrance of the local Tesco store for some time now.

“Constituents from the Ballykeel area expressed grave concerns about the speed of the traffic entering and exiting the area and the number of elderly people and young people trying to cross to the local store.

“Add to that the complicated and busy nature of the junction at Tesco and you can understand the real concerns of the community,” he said.

“The latest update I have from Tesco is that whilst unfortunately not undertaking the work this financial year due to financial constraints, it is their chief intension to undertake the works in the next financial year.

“This is good news and movement from Tesco which has to be welcomed,” said the MLA.
