Thanks from Somme Parade organisers

THE Ancre Somme Association has thanked all those who helped with the recent remembrance parade in Lurgan.

It was organised by the Association on July 1 in the town centre in memory of those from all faiths who paid the ultimate sacrifice.

The parade passed with great dignity to Union Street where a short service was held in memory of Private William McFadzean, VC, before making its way to the War Memorial in Market Street where a wreath laying ceremony took place followed by a lone piper and a minute’s silence.

The parade then proceeded to Queen Street where a festival took place to celebrate and remember the lives of all those brave men from Lurgan.

A spokeman for the Association said: “In today’s society it is hard to comprehend, yet easy to forget, what those brave young men gave to protect the freedoms and liberties of us all.

“The Ancre Somme Association would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who attended, marshals, bands, PSNI, piper and of course the people of Lurgan who helped make this a fitting tribute to the memory of those gallant men.”
