The Addams Family take to the stage

Banbridge Musical Society is busy making the final tweaks to its spring show '˜The Addams Family'.

With an hilarious script, the show is guaranteed to entertain.

This is a ‘different’ show for the society to stage – a relatively new musical and so quite unheard of in comparison to traditional shows. However, it promises to be just as entertaining – if not more so.

The Addams Family, originally created by the cartoonist Charles Addams, was first performed on Broadway in 2010. Banbridge Musical Society were delighted to obtain the rights to perform this musical comedy, as the rights to perform are not freely available. This exciting show features the quirky and ghoulish family you may be familiar with from the television series or films such as ‘The Addams Family’ and ‘Addams Family Values’.

The musical, directed by local man Leonard Anderson, is set in the Addams’ spooky mansion in Central Park in New York. Emma Kelly plays the lead role of Morticia Addams, married to Gomez Addams, played by Paddy McGennity. The plot centres around their daughter, Wednesday Addams (played by Anna-Maria Boyle) who has fallen in love with a young man named Lucas Beineke (played by Scott Skelton) from a somewhat respectable, ‘normal’ family. The hilarious comedy follows what ensues as the ‘normal’ Beineke and ghoulish Addams families get better acquainted.

The show features a wonderful cast, with family favourites Lurch (David McClelland), Pugsley (James Woods) and Uncle Fester (Jim McGuigan) also playing prominent roles. Grandma (played by Nicola Brenchley) is an hilarious character, guaranteed to be a favourite with the audience. The chorus are a fabulous ensemble of deceased Addams Family ancestors, popping up throughout the show.

Director Leonard Anderson said, “I am delighted with the way rehearsals have gone to date.
