The big butterfly count at Aghalee

Portmore Lough nature reserve outside Aghalee is home to lots of birds like tree sparrows and lapwings, but it’s also a haven for other winged wonders.

Dozens of species of butterflies and moths can be seen on the reserve’s hay meadows during the summer which is why Butterfly Conservation Northern Ireland (BCNI) have chosen this special place to launch the Big Butterfly Count 2014.

The event runs from 10.30am to 12.30pm on July 19.

Admission is £5 for adults/£3 for RSPB members. £2/£1 for children. Booking is essential by calling 028 9049 1547 or emailing [email protected]
