Corrymeela was successful in its bid to the Community Festivals Funding from Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council with the support of the Department for Culture, Arts and Leisure.

Mayor Knight-McQuillan commenting on all fund recipients said: “Local events and festivals are vital in the promotion of good relations and sense of identity within our communities.”

Corrymeela won its bid because it has strong community participation in the Aperture festival and will provide opportunities for people to develop their skills base. This could be in organising or participating in activities as well as enabling the event to be as inclusive as possible and to attract visitors to the area.

The organising committee is working with Adam Turkington of Seedhead Arts who organises Culture Night in Belfast every year. With Adam’s expertise Aperture sets to create a cross community family friendly festival with a broad range of ideas and arts that will provoke and inspire.

Aperture will celebrate, examine and give shape to ideas of conciliations and reconciliation: it will utilize authentic personal stories and experiences to influence change in others. Like all festivals it will be a pop up community, but unlike other festivals it will explicitly aim to build good relations and community into our everyday lives so that the experiences will live on in the people who have attended.

Ticket and Programme information for Aperture are on our website www.corrymeela.org

Children under 5 are free.
