The Goonies Drive-In show set for Port

Portrush will be host to a special Drive-In movie screening of 80’s cult classic The Goonies as part of the Belfast Film Festival’s Coastal Cinema season.

The Goonies will be shown on the UK’s largest LED screen which is being brought in especially for the event, with the BFF hoping to accommodate up to 250 cars at East Strand car park on on Sunday, February 8 at 7:30pm.

The Coastal Cinema season aims to encourage local costal communities to get involved with their areas and to bring alternative cinema across Northern Ireland.

The project will run in various areas until the main Belfast Film Festival (BFF) begins in April.

Damian Connor, from the Belfast Film Festival, said:

“Our aim is to bring cultural cinema to coastal areas across Northern Ireland. The idea behind the drive-in event is to use the outdoors and encourage people from the area to engage more with their location.

“The Goonies is a cult classic and there is already a great buzz about the event”

The idea of drive-in screenings is nothing new to Northern Ireland, and the recent emergence of local film clubs across the region has caught the attention of various communities.
